Mumbai: Coast Guard Nabs Pakistani Boat, Fishermen for Trespassing

Mumbai, Nov 28 (IANS) The Indian Coast Guard in Gujarat has intercepted a Pakistani boat with at least seven fishermen that had violated Indian territorial waters, an official said Sunday.

The boat had sailed from Karachi last Thursday and strayed around 10 nautical miles into the Indian territorial waters near Mithapore, on the Kutchh coast. It was intercepted Saturday.

"We have brought the boat today (Sunday) to Okha along with the arrested persons for further investigations. Different agencies will interrogate the trespassers before we decide what to do with them," an official of the Coast Guard in Gujarat told IANS here.

Indian and Pakistani fishermen regularly stray into each others territorial waters while fishing or during inclement weather and security agencies from both sides nab the trespassers.

The official said that even last month, a fishing boat was apprehended but declined to reveal details about it.
