Mandya, Dec 16: After a social media post spread the message that the historic Jamia Masjid in Srirangapatna would be demolished on the lines of Babri Masjid by the Hindu activists, the police have been on high alert in the area. At the same time, Hindu Jagarana Vedike has planned Sankeertana Yatra (procession singing devotional songs) at Srirangapatna on Thursday. As such the police have been keeping close vigil.

Mandya district is known for religious harmony. Like every year, Hindu Jag ran Vedike has planned Sankeertana Yatra on December 16 this year. A pamphlet posted in social media which has warned of demolition of the mosque has given rise to concerns among the Muslim leaders who have approached district administration and police department to take precautions and avoid such incidents.

The police have installed CCTV cameras around the mosque and hundreds of police led by officers have been deployed all over the town. Sale of liquor has been barred in Srirangapatna and Ganjam from December 15 to December 16 midnight.
