Centre forms UAPA Tribunal to probe ban on Zakir Naik's Islamic Research Foundation

New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS): The Centre has constituted an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal headed by Delhi High Court Chief Justice D.N. Patel under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA) provisions to adjudicate whether there is sufficient cause for banning Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), founded by the controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik.

The development comes following the earlier order of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dated November 15, which had extended the ban on the IRF for five more years.

"The Central Government hereby constitutes an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal consisting of Justice D.N. Patel, Chief Justice of High Court of Delhi, for the purpose of adjudicating whether or not there is sufficient cause for declaring the Islamic Research Foundation as an unlawful association," the Ministry of Home Affairs' notification dated December 13 read.

Earlier, the Central government had observed that the unlawful activities of the IRF are not curbed and controlled immediately, it will take the opportunity to continue its subversive activities and re-organise its activists who are still absconding.

The government also apprehended that the IRF cadre and supporters may disrupt the secular fabric of the country by polluting the minds of the people by creating communal disharmony, propagating anti-national sentiments, escalating secessionism by supporting militancy, and undertaking activities that are prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country and it was necessary to extend the ban on IRF for five years more.

The Centre had declared the IRF an unlawful organisation for the first time on November 17, 2016, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967) for a period of five years. The ban was to expire on Tuesday.

Zakir Naik, an Indian-born controversial Islamic preacher had fled to Malaysia in 2016 when the police lodged a case against him for his anti-national activities, including promoting hatred among the religious communities through his speeches.

Guys its nice to have debate but these politicians and some communal minded people provoke others against the religion and make them fight..thats why in 2021 we find discrimination against communities. Those were the days 15 to 20 yrs back Hindu muslim Christian or any other religion had so much of unity.. but now everything has chNged.

He indirectly propagates Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, etc. more than his own!!!. Knowing by- heart or memorizing Holy books doesn't mean anything. Consequently, Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ (Rom10:17).

If that is the case, all faiths should welcome his speech. Even I noticed that mostly he talks about the similarities in the scriptures of all these major religions. But people provoke him through their questions so that he is compelled to take quotes from other religious scriptures which they don't like to hear or to be discussed.

If 1 country is banning, people can say it is biased & lies of India. malaysia has banned zakir's preachings in malaysia itself. if he has truth 2 say he must debate with christian scholars like dr david wood, james white (usa) sam shamoun, brother Jerry thomas from india, christian prince, osama dak duk, dr tony costa (Canada)

Zakir and his supporters say he is innocent, whereas the government has charges against him. If he has nothing to hide then why doesn't he come back to India to face charges against him. With Zakir's wealth he could hire top notch lawyers who will defend him and prove all his adversaries wrong.

Why should he face the shit here, where he can't expect justice, where the purpose of the government is to imprison and punish him by any means.... He has done the right thing and God will protect those who are on His mission to spread truth.

1+1+1= 3 correct. 1X1X1=1 correct. This is Maths. Mark 14:50 "All devilled forsook Jesus and fled". Then who witnessed to see the crucifixion and death?! Who wrote the Gospel then. Ahmed Deedat challenged. Mark 14:54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. The Judge says the witnesses to gospel is so vulnerable, it can even passes the challenge in any courts of law.
