Mangaluru: Air quality in city remains good - Pollution Control Board

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 8: As compared to other cities in the country, air quality has remained at a good level in Mangaluru. The quality has been maintained steadily. Even during Diwali festival, pollution was not excessive, as per the statistics put together by the pollution control board.

About a month back, dusty air was witnessed in a few areas in the city outskirts. It remained so for a week but because of the rainfall that was experienced thereafter, the environment is clear. It may be recalled that dusty weather was also experienced last week. Officials say that there is no worry about the climate now, as there is greenery in the city and more plants are being planted wherever possible to keep the environment cleaner.

The particular matter of dust particles here is 30 micrograms/cubic metre in 2.5 days. Sulphur is 10 micrograms/cubic metre, carbon dioxide is 1 microgram/cubic metre. Ammonia is 54 microgram/cubic metre. Ozone is measured at 20 during the day and more during nights. These figures are not worrisome. The quantity is a little more in Baikampady and Suratkal where because of their proximity to industries. The industries too, keep a track on the pollutants with the help of machinery.

The Smart City Project has installed measuring machines at five places in the city to keep a tab on the quality of air. They are located in the corporation building at Lalbagh, town hall, Hampankatta, near Ambedkar circle, block education office, Bolar, and near Crescent school Bunder. People can also access the date through OneTouch Mangaluru app. The Pollution Control Board gets figures directly through the command and control centre.

In Kuwait its an extreme weather. Winter some times drops to low and we make use of heater. Whatsoever, natural heater supersede all other created heat. Natural warmth rater than heat. Are you married ? If yes, I need not explain further. Take care in event that Omicron is spreading fast. Today we got news that Kuwait too recorded its first case today.

Exactly. I dont understand how they can claim Mangalore is pollution free while companies like MRPL, BASF and HP pollute the atmosphere 24x7. Ground water is polluted and undrinkable. Rivers around these companies are polluted. The sea gets polluted from the affluents from MRPL released near Mukka beach. How can they say Mangaluru is pollution free without measuring these things.

For fresh air people need to shift from busy city to village areas. No noise or air pollution at all. But some country dogs keep making some noise or when they play together. Now a days even village life is at par with town life with all the gadgets/internet modern facilities are available at your hands reach.

I go out for a walk of around 5-6 kms in the evenings around 6.30 PM. I try to find quiet roads around my home area (Bunts Hostel Circle), but that is almost impossible. Many of the roads are dug up making walking hazardous. Most of the roads do not have proper pavements for pedestrians. So then you have to content yourself by walking on the side of the road with reckless traffic boiling past you on the roads. Even with a mask on, the pollution (vehicular + dust) irritates the throat and makes the eyes water. The pollution data should be published daily in the local newspapers to make the local population aware of the dangers they are facing.

There are 22 large and medicum scale chemical industries, over 9806 smal scale chemical industries in Mangalore. Especially chemical companies making mangalore as their destination. Our political leaders of dakshina kannada mistaaken development means bringing & allowing chemicals companies to mangalore.
