One week mandatory quarantine for overseas arrivals: Udupi DC

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Nov 30: Deputy commissioner (DC) M Kurma Rao announced Covid guidelines and said that all those who are arriving from overseas countries should be under quarantine for one-week even though their RT-PCR report is negative.

In addition, Rao also said, “Those who are entering the district from Kerala should bring negative reports. Once the quarantine is over, re-testing will be done. Strict monitoring of college and hostels is being done. Everyday three to four thousand Covid tests are being done. We have held meetings with leaders of all communities and also other organizations.

“We have asked for cooperation on the following of Covid guidelines. Detection of those who have not got the first dose of vaccine is being done. We have spoken to Manipal University management also. Many students from outstation states and overseas are coming to Manipal university. They have been instructed to conduct a complete test of students.

“Covid guidelines are made mandatory. Chief of Manipal University has asked to provide full support to district administration,” he said.

Is this order based on any medical evidence or just to prove to the district as to who is the boss? When none of the other districts in Karnataka have followed this path, what is the basis for this order?

Is this for real?? Only udupi?. This does not make any sense when the the rule is only applicable for one district which doesn't even have international airport. This is so dumb initiative

these DCs assume powers whether it is within their jurisdiction or not and try to impose stupid rules. Let him first ensure that incoming people are vaccinated and carry negative RTPCR report as done by Gulf Countries. Quarantine is not as simple as talking. So dont start stupid rules.

Can any responsible doctor or medical authority confidently declare that those who have taken two does of vaccine are 100% safe, cannot transmit the disease and can walk free without wearing a mask???

I think he wants to show that he is the smart DC and wants to become the 1st in the country to implement quarantine for the citizens returning from abroad. Even the Central , State govts not decided about the quarantine, how come he decide him self.

As of today no authority in the world fully knows about the vaccine - how does it work, how foolproof it is, how much protection it gives and for how long, what are the side effects on human bodies, who can transmit, does it have recurrence and so on. Even today it’s only happening on trial and error or wait and watch basis. The situation being such nobody can force anybody to take vaccine against his/her wish.

Taking vaccine or not is an individual’s choice, nobody can enforce it on anybody. Let everyone know that there is something called “human rights” which have to be respected.

Yesterday Udupi 7 and DK 11 infections, gulf countries are safe and almost fully vaccinated. I guess this directive is less of home work. My be some sectors need additional business such as exorbitant Rapid tests RT PCR and hotel accommodation! Why not Mangalore and other districts? Why Udupi only???
