Jagnauth Advocates Strong Ties between India-Mauritius


Bhubaneswar, Nov 15 (PTI) Advocating strong bonds between India and Mauritius, President of the island nation Anirood Jagnauth today said his country, like India owes its liberation to Mahatma Gandhi.

"Ties between India and Mauritius are very friendly.

The bond should be made stronger by fostering brotherhood between people of two countries," Jagnauth, who is on a two-day visit to Orissa said.

Attributing the liberation of Mauritius to 'Gandhiji', he said, "the awesome courage" with which the 'Father of the Nation' led India to freedom had inspired his country as well.

Expressing gratitude to 'Bapu', the Mauritian President said Gandhiji not only fought for independence of India from the British rule but in a way for the liberation of Mauritius as well.

"We learnt how to fight for our rights from Gandhiji".
