Panaji, Nov 11: A total of Rs 3,79,29,000 have been paid to the unskilled workers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme MGNREGA so far in the state, said Union Minister for Rural Development Dr C P.Joshi informed Shantaram Naik MP in a written reply to the question asked by him in the Rajya Sabha on the subject.
Minister said that at the time of commencement of the scheme wage rate in Goa was Rs 110 per day and that the same rate is applicable at present also.
Giving District taluk wise details Minister informed Naik that in North Goa district in Bardez wages paid were Rs 29.26 lac, Bicholim 48.59 lac, Pernem Rs 77.10 lac, Ponda 26.17lac, Sattari 68.17 lac and Tiswadi 10.21 lac.
As regards South Goa District, in Canacona taluk Rs.36.66 lac wages were paid, Mormugao Rs 10.61 lac, Quepem Rs 20 lac, Salcerte Rs 18.69 lac and Sanguem Rs 33.83 lac wages were paid to the unskilled workers, minister informed Naik.
Minister also informed Naik that payment of wages to MGNREGA workers have been made mandatory through their accounts in banks/post offices to infuse transparency in wage disbursement.
State level and district level monitoring committees have been set up for monitoring of rural development programmes including MGNREGA.
Besides, independent monitoring by national level monitors and periodic reviews with state governments are also taken.
