Panaji, Nov 6: Narakasura, the demon is here once gain. Narakasura processions, competitions mark the beginning of Diwali season in Goa. Thousands of Narakasura effigies are made and taken out in processions across the state of Goa on the eve of Diwali.

Diwali, the festival of lights is also known as "Naraka Chaturdashi". It may be recalled that Lord Krishna during the Dwapar yug, killed the demon 'Narakasura' and freed 16,000 beautiful girls and women during the wee hours of Naraka Chaturdashi.

Lord Krishna was then given a warm welcome and given a early morning bath with brightness all around. People thus celebrate this victory of good over evil as 'Diwali'. The traditiion still continues in Goa too.
