Panaji: Be Adept at Basic Vocabulary, Mauzo at DKA's Novel Writing Workshop

Panaji, Oct 31: “Inorder to write a good novel, besides the new thought, the writer should possess basic vocabulary of the language, through which he can express himself in a more effective way. Besides, the writer should also have an artistic way of writing which will keep the readers engrossed in the novelty of the book,” said SahityaAkademi Award winner and renowned novelist Damodar Mauzo.

He was speaking at the function after lighting the traditional lamp to mark the inauguration of the two-day Residential Novel Writing Workshop organized by Dalgado Konkani Akademi (DKA) at Colva Residency, Colva here on Saturday October 30. He advised the participants to read the good literature from other languages in order to understand the trend and standards of writing a novel.

Mauzo while delivering his inuagural address, did not forget to mention Konkani novelist Eduardo Bruno de Souza, who came out with the first Konkani Novel ‘Kristanv Ghorabo’ in 1892 and well known novelist
of yesteryears late Reginaldo Fernandes, and others who have contributed immensely to Konkani literature through novels. He also reminded the participants that writing novels in other languages is come of age and very profitable, and expressed the hope that if good novels are published in Konkani, the day is not far where the novelist will be paid by the publisher in advance to write more novels.

Others present on the dais for the inaugural function were president of Tiatr Akademi of Goa Tomazinho Cardozo, president of Dalgado Konkani Akademi Premanand Lotliker, Novel Workshop co-ordinator Vincy
Quadros and DKA secretary Jose Salvador Fernandes.

Tomazinho Cardoso who was the guest of honour praised DKA for organizing the residential Novel Writing Workshop, and advised to study the thought that has been put out in the novels by the erstwhile writers in Roman script. He mentioned about the demand for novels written by late Reginaldo Fernandes, who was the topmost novelist of yesteryears.

Novel Workshop Co-ordinator Vincy Quadros while explaining the aims and objectives of holding two-day residential Novel Writing Workshop, said that there are only a few novel writers in Roman script. In order
that more and more writers take on to novel writing in Roman script and to encourage them, this workshop has been organized by DKA., he said.

Through this workshop DKA is hoping that all the participants will come out with their own novels and promised that their novels will be published by DKA in totality, said Premanand Lotliker, president of
DKA who presided over the inaugural function.

Secretary of DKA Jose Salvador Fernandes welcomed and proposed the vote of thanks.  In all 21 participants are taking part in the residential novel writing workshop underway at Colva Residency.
