Panaji, Oct 18: Bye poll election for the Valpoi constituency recorded an overall percentage of 82% voting on Monday. The bye poll election was largely peaceful with two companies of Central Industrail Security Force deployed at the various polling stations across the Valpoi constituency. The Bye poll was conducted following the resignation of independent MLA and Goa Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane as the member of the Goa State Assembly and as a cabinet minister from Digambar Kamat's council of ministers. Vishwajeet Rane had tendered his resignation on June 24.

The former health minister Vishwajeet Rane is facing a straight fight from the BJP candidate Santosh Halarnkar who is confident of winning the Valpoi seat and making it to the Goa State Assembly. Going back the memory lane way, Vishwajeet Rane had earlier defeated BJP candidate Puti Gaonkar (Now in Congress) in the 2007 Assembly Poll. The counting will be held on October 21 in Panaji.
