Mumbai, Sep 20: The Kannada department of Mumbai university held a programme to felicitate special achievers and of interaction at Ranade Bhavan, Santacruz Vidyanagari on Thursday, Sep 16. Kusumodhara D Shetty, founder president of Bhavani Foundation was honoured on receiving the Rajyotsava award.

He said that he reached this stage after attending free night high school run by Bantara Sangha.

“I lost my father at the age of three and a half years. I was raised by my mother. I had a difficult childhood,” said Shivarama Bhandary, one of the guests.

The programme was presided over by Kannada department head Dr G N Upadhya. Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha, Maharashtra president Rons Bantwal was the chief guest. Dr Upadhya honoured K D Shetty with a shawl, presented a gold medal and books.

He also honoured Kala Bhagwath, topper in the M A postgraduate degree examination held during June with a gold medal from late M B Kukyan. Sudha Shetty who came out first in the Kannada diploma course, talented students who secured more than 80% marks Shashikala Hegde, Shalini D K, Rudramurthi Prabhu, arts organizer Karnur Mohan Rai and university’s Reshma Mane were also felicitated.

Kala Bhagwath, Sudha Shetty, Karnur Mohan Rai and Reshma Mane spoke as per context and commended the noble service of Dr G N Upadhya. Surekha H Devadiga, Jaya C Salian, Srinivas Padani, Sathish N Bangera, Durgappa Kotiavar and others took part in the interaction. Kannada department co professor Dr Poornima Sudhakar Shetty welcomed. Shashikala Hegde rendered a vote of thanks.
