Goa, Sep 10: An initiative to set up a system to collect waste during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to help in channelising proper disposal has been taken up. On this point, Neuera village was provided with bins  at Ganesh idol immersion points.

Purshottam Mardolkar, a student of the Theatre Arts college said  “The waste is released in water bodies but since the festival is about the worship of God and nature, how can we say we are doing that when we are causing damage to nature”.

A team of students visited the idol immersion spots at Dhondbhat, Dhaktembhat, Devbhat and other water bodies to assess the problem of the litter of plastic.

Chaitali Gawas said “ the motive behind the distribution of bins is also to make the waste useful to the village after composting”
