Panaji, Oct 7: The historic city garden 'Garcia De Orta' built in the year 1855 during the Portuguese rule in Goa was re-inuagurated following its facelift on Tuesday.

The well attended glittering inuagural ceremony of the heritage garden was headed by the Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji Carolina Po along with the Chairman of the Goa Forest Development Corporation Pratap Gawas and other ruling and opposition city corporators.

The GARCIA DE ORTA, popularly known as the Municipal garden is named after Garcia de Orta, a 16th century physician, who worked on Indian herbs and produced a treatise on the comparative study of European and Indian medicine.

The inuagural ceremony witnessed the felicitation of senior Panjimites by the Corporation of the City of Panaji which was well appreciated.

The ceremony ended up with splendid fireworks display.
