Govt 'having fun' selling national assets built by Nehru: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, Sep 5 (IANS): In a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre, the Shiv Sena on Sunday said that the 'long-term vision' of the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru saved the country from the current economic disaster it is reeling under and the present government is now enjoying selling the national assets he created.

"The BJP government may have differences with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul or Priyanka, but why this hatred for Nehru? The institutions created by Nehru are being sold by the present government to give a fillip to the economy," said Sena MP and Chief Spokesperson Sanjay Raut.

His comments came over the dropping of photos of India's first Prime Minister Nehru and the country's first Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad from a promotional released by the Union Education Ministry's Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) on the 75th year celebrations of India's Independence, sparking a row recently.

Dwelling on Nehru's nation-building legacy, Raut asserted that "the government is now having fun selling off the national assets created by him, otherwise the country would be starving, people would be jobless and there would have anarchy".

"You should be forever indebted to Nehru but instead, you have wiped out his very role in the Freedom Movement. Why so much animosity towards Nehru. You must reply to the country," Raut said.

Slamming the Central government for the act in his weekly column 'Rokthok' in the party newspaper 'Saamna' Group, Raut said without the contributions of Nehru and Azad, the history of Indian Freedom Movement "will never be complete".

"Only those who cannot make history consider it a bravado to erase the history of others. Those who kept far away from and never participated in the Freedom Struggle are now trying to keep out one of the heroes of the Independence Movement. This is not proper," he said.

"You may have political differences with Nehru's party (Congress), or his politics or his domestic and foreign policies. But to remove his contributions to the country's freedom struggle in this manner is an insult to each freedom-fighter," Raut added without mincing words.

He said that in the same vindictive vein, the government renamed the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, but the contributions of Nehru and Indira Gandhi to the Indian Independence are "immortal", and asked what the country hopes to gain by this.

In this context, he lauded the political magnanimity displayed recently by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin as an "exemplary act of love, sympathy and respect for political opponents".

Raut said that when he took over as CM, Stalin was confronted with the issue of 6.5 million schoolbags to be distributed free to students, but had the photos of the former CMs the late J. Jayalalitha and E. Palaniswamy who was voted out in May 2021.

"When asked by his officials what to do with the bags, CM Stalin categorically said the scheme should not stop because of the photos (Jayalalitha and Palaniswamy), and must be immediately disbursed to the children. He said the state would save Rs 15-crore which can be used in the war against Coronavirus," Raut pointed out.

This is the same CM whose father (the late CM M. Karuranidhi) was dragged out of his home by Jalalalitha's policemen at the dead of the night and arrested, but Stalin showed a cultured and mature behaviour to forget the old hatred in the state's interest, and Raut urged "all political parties to take a lesson from this".

Today, the 3 largest private sector banks, ie ICICI-Bank, HDFC-Bank, and AXIS-Bank, - all three used to be government banks, but in the PV Narasimha Rao government, Dr. ManMoun was the Finance Minister .........Singh sold them! The full name of ICICI was Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India. It was such an institution of the Government of India, which used to give loans to big industries. In a jiffy, Finance Minister Dr. ManMoun Singh disinvested it, made it private, and renamed it ICICI Bank! The full name of HDFC Bank as it is today was Housing Development Corporation of India. It used to be such an institution of the Government of India, which used to provide home loans to middle class citizens at cheap interest! Dr. ManMoun Singh, who was the finance minister in the Narasimha Rao government, said, "The government's job is only to govern, not sell home loans!" Dr. ManMoun Singh calls this a necessary step, and says, "The job of the government is only to run the government, not run a bank, or give loans!" And in a jiffy, Finance Minister Dr. ManMoun Singh sold HDFC Bank! And it became a private sector bank! One such interesting story is from Axis Bank! There used to be an organization of the Government of India, its name was Unit Trust of India. This organization was formed to promote small savings. That is, you could deposit a small amount in it! Dr. ManMoun Singh, Finance Minister in the Narasimha Rao government said, "The job of the government is not to run the scheme of chit fund!" And in a jiffy it was sold out! Earlier it was named as UTI Bank, and later it was named as Axis Bank! Similarly today there is IDBI Bank, which is a private bank! At one time it used to be an organization of the Government of India, whose name was Industrial Development Corporation of India! Its function was to give loans to industries. But Dr. ManMoun Singh sold it too! And today it has become a private bank!

Please Google for answers, it's all there in black and white! Also refer to Lok Sabha recordings during 1992 to 1995, Where ManMoun was very active younger man, voicing out against own Govt! He's the father of Disinvestments!

"Sale of Indias Assets by BJP", the Modi government has undertaken the sale of Rs 6 lakh crore worth of India's national properties created over the last 67 years. The "For Sale" of India's hard-earned assets is the single biggest "anti-national" act. The national properties are being sold -- rather squandered away by the Modi government as a "clearance sale"."The Rs six lakh crore sale of India's properties is shocking as the Modi government has put India's every public asset on sale," These include, 27,000 kms of highways, 6,000 MW of power generation and 28,000 kms of power transmission lines, 8,000 kms of gas pipeline, 210 lakh metric ton of foodgrain storage, 2.86 lakh kms of telecom fibre and 15,000 telecom towers, 25 airports, nine ports, 761 mining blocks, two national stadiums, 1.52 lakh crore worth of railway property. Along with ‘disinvestment' and ‘privatisation', the Modi government has now hit upon the idea of ‘monetisation', that is, transferring effective ownership of public assets created over the last 67 years to a handful of crony friends, while the government will hang on to a piece of paper of ownership that will only be returned to the government at the end of 30 to 50 years. "Two consequences will definitely follow. Firstly, income from the government owned public assets will not be available to the nation or its future generations for the long lease period of 30 to 50 years. "Secondly, opportunities for India's poor and people belonging to SC, ST, OBC in the shape of reservation in jobs or investments in underdeveloped areas will be finished ,"They are selling roads, railways, airports, Power transmission, Power generation, natural resources, petroleum pipelines mining, Food Corporation of of India (FCI) godowns, seaports. (BJP) are selling assets worth Rs 60 lakh crore at Rs 6 lakh crore to your friends. And that a, 6 lakh crore wil2l also come from the pockets of public," Modi Govt is a Disaster . BJP Hatao. Desh Bachao.

First came failed demonitisation, then came badly planned GST. As a result businesses went bankrupt and businessmen ran out of the country. Ecoonomy was crushed and banks were merged. Due to this monitisation is replaced by failed demonitisation and public assets are now being sold in a desparate manner to repair the damage but this will further destroy the economy and the country because the assets are going to already bankrupt companies with no hope of revival. End result will be Indian economy will come to an grinding halt to create chaos and lawlessness.
