Mangaluru: Woman files dowry harassment case - Complains of mental, physical torture

Mangaluru, Aug 4: A lady has filed a complaint in the women's police station here, alleging that her husband, Tushar B Manai and his family members had tortured her physically and mentally for dowry.

The woman says that at the time of their marriage, Tushar had made her and her family believe that he was running a hotel in Dubai. All the expenses pertaining to the marriage were met by her parents. As per the demand of the groom's family, over Rs 15 lac was paid by selling land and raising loan.

After the marriage, Tushar along with his family members reportedly put pressure on her to bring an additional amount of ten lac rupees from her parents to buy a car. They also are said to have pressured her and inflicted mental and physical harassment. She said that they forcefully got her to sign as guarantor for the car loan. Another charge is that the family members assaulted her after getting drunk.

The police personnel of the station are investigating.

    Couples generally start their relationships being in love, but,sustaining that feeling for each other takes effort, sacrifice, and generosity. Expressing love, no matter how heartfelt, doesn’t mean much if marriage partners don’t respect each other. Respecting your partner for the qualities means that you not only accept, but also admire your differences. One has to have a long term commitment ,means till death do us apart. Commitment is the act of choosing to go through all of its ups and downs together. The biggest problem is, many are not bothered about the marriage vows they make. Dowry although banned in India, the statute is in paper and not in practice. By demanding dowry, man becomes a commodity for sale, shame on such men. Till our girls are able to stand by their own, unfortunately, the dishonest and selfish men will take undue advantage.

    Here main & biggest mistake is done by bride's parent. Their mistakes are: 1) Its wrong to pay all expenses of marriage by bride's parent only. Expenses should be shared equally between bride's parent & groom's parent. 2) Why bride's parent paid more than Rs 15 lac to groom. What. Is they were buying the groom. Always bride's parent & groom's parent should fully investigate each others real character to the maximum extent possible before marriage of their children & if necessary to pay money, always pay by A/c payee cheque with agreement for payment.

    Cynthia, I fully agree with you point of view on the matter. Men think and act superior to wife and defend their out of the way/illegitimate deals or acts as a necessity or matches men's nature but never accept same treatment if at all happens with their partner. Even our politicians are not less. Where is Jackal (Jarkiholi) now.. Most of the violence in the married life comes out due to, doubtful situations, bad friends circle, alcohol over limit and fights and drink ........

    Flavs....yes...your comment is appreciated. When a man thinks ge can't manage married life should not marry....Every man knows what is his characters are ! Because of such characters, our ladies pick odd ways to live their life. After all without money, one kg rice wont come into the kitchen to feed her children. I have seen a man here who left his wife and got married again to someone, just because a baby girl is born to her. Who's fault she conceived a baby girl ?? Those who dont know can Google and see...Where she will go to feed her child ?

    Cynthia DK,I fully agree with you about some men.Their upper motor doesnt work so good ,that too when not educated ones ,from village side too.I remember about 45 years back working in maternity ward,a simple woman came to delivery for the fourth time.She got again girl for the fourth time.She got depression ,and didnt want go home,since her husband had threatend her not to come with a fourth girl.If so he will put her out with girls .was crying.When her husband came to take her ,I told him not to harm her or other girls.O therwise we will inform police,since we have his address.I dont know what happened later.Sometimes girls parents too are responsible to give daughter in second marriage ,not knowing his intention..They should first findout what are sources at home ,what he tells is true?etc.May be girls parents have money ,thatswhy he harassed to bring money ,car?.I would have not written whatever with force or not.Why he married ?Only to enrich himself ?hard to believe.Girls too take interest before marriage to know him better.Not simply marry because of parents.otherwise happens as here.Hope she gets right.

    Mental torture is the biggest torture followed by physical torture. Some men, with pride act that they only the super owner of their wives, once he marries to her.....Many keep illegal relationships outside the marriage and harrass their wives mentally, causing depression thereby....may this lady get justice properly

    Jossey sir, Minority or majors....harrassment is there every religion. Dont think that our community ladies are peaceful without any problems and harrassments...People are same in every community. Only we differentiate them on the basis of religion.     Taking dowry is history now. Please investigate such menace carefully and punish so that others don’t do the same. Parents should to venture into get their sons get married with wrong information. It’s also a crime and society should not accept such behavior. Marriage is not a money making business. It’s a life time responsibility.

    Too much to happen. Dowry system must be abolished by drafting and implementing a fresh law. Having wife does not mean that purchasing some product for sexual pleasure. We are human beings and not existing at par with animals. I am so sorry that my wife passed away last year due to covid 19 and I am living in the world with empty goals, though God has blessed me with two children and having two grand sons. I keep joking and creating new friends to keep me occupied with some creative mind.
