Maharashtra Village Pays Homage to 17 Killed in Jeep Crash


Gondia (Maharashtra), Sep 18 (IANS) About 1,500 people of Navegaon village in this Maharashtra district Saturday observed a voluntary shutdown and paid homage to 17 people who died in a road accident the day before, police here said.

"The accident took place Friday evening when a milk tanker and a jeep collided. Around 20 people were travelling in the jeep," a police officer said.

"The entire village has voluntarily observed a bandh today (Saturday). The primary school has been shut. The local shop owners have also kept their shops shut," he added.
