Jul 23: DK reports 295 cases; Udupi adds 131, 5 deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 23: Dakshina Kannada on Friday, July 23 reported 295 new coronavirus cases and four deaths, while Udupi registered 131 new cases and one death.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 12,128,749 samples have been tested so far, out of which 11,48,110 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 97,939, out of which 2,079 are currently active.

As many as 179 patients were discharged from hospitals on Friday.

The district recorded four deaths due to coronavirus on Friday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,388.

The positivity rate in the district has come down to 4.46%.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 99,30,317 as fine in 81,547 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 7,55,313 samples have been tested so far.

A total of 131 new cases were reported on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 68,774, out of which 847 are currently active.

A total of 117 patients were discharged from hospitals on Friday.

Out of 131 new patients, 110 are in home isolation while 21 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 131 cases, as many as 91 are symptomatic and 40 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi reported 59 new cases, Kundapur registered 36 and Karkala 34, and two was from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 409 lives in the district so far, including one on Friday. The person who died on  Friday was from Udupi.

So far, 4,91,025 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 1,69,343 have received the second dose.

A total of 44 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which, 8 are currently active.
