Mangaluru: Installation of new team of Lions Club Balmatta held

Mangaluru, Jul 23: Lions Club Balmatta held the installation ceremony of the newly elected team of new office bearers for the year 2021-2022 on July 17. Lion Lancy Carlo the Club President, Lion Avil D’Souza, the club secretary and Lion Noel Saldanha, the club treasurer, took oath as PST of the club.

The introduction of PST was done by Lion Jane Lobo. The new member Lion Anita Saldanha was done by Lion Noel Saldanha.

The installing officer Lion Arvind Shenoy MJF inducted the PST, board of directors, and new member Lion Anitha Saldanha.

 

President Lion Linet D’Souza called the meeting to order. Lion's prayer was sung and read by Lion Juliet Mascarenhas, Lion Pooja Jalan read the flag salutation, Lion Lancy Menzes read the code of ethics, Lion Preetham Kunder welcomed the gathering.

Lion Lisa D’Souza MJF introduced the installing officer Lion Arvind Shenoy MJF. The installing officer in his address spoke on the importance of the Lion Club's services to society and how they can help to build a better tomorrow.

In the acceptance speech, newly elected president Lion Lancy Carlo committed to carry out service activities to the extent of Rs 1 crore with the help of his club members which will mainly include feeding the hungry and shelter to the homeless.

He said, "As part of the service activities club initiated their first permanent project in association with Snehalaya at Nainadu near Venur, a house of 650 sft to a homeless lady with a handicapped son and another studying in 10th standard. The estimated cost is Rs 8,00,000 jointly financed by St Joseph Church, Nainadu and Lions Club Mangaluru Balmatta. Club contribution is Rs 5,00,000.

"Our club also organised a collection of Rs 1,55,000 in association with SMMKC choir, Sharjah and donated to Veena Rodrigues for her children education. She is widow of the late Francis Rodrigues who was a member of SMMKC choir, Sharjah and became a victim of Covid19 recently.

"We have contributed Rs 2,70,500 towards the purchase of kitchen equipment to Snehalaya Charitable Trust, Manjeshwara from our club. This is a contribution from our club well-wishers.

"Also, the club celebrated Doctor's Day and honoured four doctors, ZC Dr Sneha, Dr Prakash,Dr Monisha and Dr Sunitha who have given their valuable service to the community during the covid19 pandemic," he said. 

Immediate past president Lion Lint D’Souza thanked the past secretary, treasurer and all members for helping her in her lionistic year.

Club felicitation was done by region chairperson Lion Vishnu Mayya MJF, district cabinet secretary Lion Shashidhar Marla MJF and Lion Bharathi PMJF.

The highlight of the programme was guest speaker Richard Mendonca. His introduction was done by Lion Sandra Crasta. He spoke on the importance of Lion members and their service to society.

The vote of thanks was delivered by club secretary Lion Avil D’Souza. The programme concluded by singing the national anthem.
