Jul 21: Dakshina Kannada reports 190 cases; Udupi adds 104, 6 deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 21: Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday, July 21 reported 190 new coronavirus cases and six deaths, while Udupi registered 104 new cases and one death.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 11,98,224 samples have been tested so far, out of which 11,00,809 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 97,415, out of which 1,956 are currently active.

As many as 140 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.

The district recorded six deaths due to coronavirus on Wednesday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,381.

The positivity rate in the district has come down to 2.4%.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 99,08,817 as fine in 81,432 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 7,46,725 samples have been tested so far.

A total of 104 new cases were reported on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases to 68,561, out of which 846 are currently active.

A total of 44 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.

Out of 104 new patients, 89 are in home isolation while 15 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 104 cases, as many as 59 are symptomatic and 45 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi reported 57 new cases, Kundapur registered 11 and Karkala 34, and two was from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 408 lives in the district so far, including one on Wednesday. The person who died on  Wednesday was from Kundapura.

So far, 4,88,667 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 164,358 have received the second dose.

A total of 43 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which, 11 are currently active.
