Mumbai, Jul 5: Former Vile Parle MLA, Krishna Hegde thanked the CM, Uddhav Thackeray for the two notifications dated June 21 and March 19, 2020 which state that the slums around the CSINA (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) notified area to be redeveloped under the SRA scheme and also that each eligible structure will now be given an increased area (305 sq ft).

"The local BJP leaders are trying to take credit without any reason or much effort for people living in the airport area. It is the Uddhav Thackeray led Maha Vikas Agadi Government which has issued the notifications and showing the path to development and rehabilitation," said Hegde. Over 80000 houses are to be rehabilitated in the process in situ.

"65 acre of land is to be carved out from the airport land to rehabilitate the residents. Over 17000 tenements are already built in Vidyavihar and some residents from the airport area had already started residing there during my term as MLA. Other areas were also notified for the rehabilitation of the people staying on airport land then.

"I had also suggested that during my tenure as MLA that some part of the land at the Kalina University campus be used to accommodate the people affected by airport expansion. Chief ministers including Vilasrao ji Deshmukh, Ashokrao ji Chavan and Prithiviraj ji Chavan have addressed the people living in the airport area and assured them in situ rehabilitation and Hon CM Shri Uddhav ji Thackeray has also assured the same through back to back notifications.

"The BJP should stop misleading the people and trying to take credit where their involvement is now almost zero. On September 9, 2014, a notification was issued by Congress – NCP Aghadi government which clearly states in situ rehabilitation for the airport affected people and now the Maha Vikas Aghadi government led by CM Uddhav Thackeray has also assured the same."

Hegde thanked chief minister Uddhav Thackeray for carrying out development with a human face. "Not only is the Sena-led MVA government giving in-situ rehabilitation to the people on airport land, but also giving them self sufficient bigger homes with required facilities like schools, hospitals etc nearby, to live in a more comfortable environment," Hegde added.
