Across the miles we bowed down in tears and prayers, as Fr. John Fernandes made his final journey to his final resting place... We deeply remember him for his warmth qualities, along with his compassionate smile, as a passionate pastor, a caring listener, with a delightful sense of humour & love, as he embraced one and all, whoever met him on his journey, in all their joys & sorrows. We think of him today, deeply in our hearts, with happy memories of the days he spent with us during his visits in Germany, as he always considered Germany his second home. We also greatly remember his acquaintances with us in Mangalore as a friend, and also for being always a part of our journey. He blessed & released our first Konkani Musical CD in 1992 and also blessed our New Home in 1996. We are always grateful to him for his comforting words of hope and encouragement he gave us in our most difficult times of life. His precious memories will be like eternal diamonds, we will cherish them forever. May he rest in Jesus' Embrace eternally. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Sharel, Evelyn & Michael Machado, Heidelberg, Germany.

In Fr. John the diocese of Mangalore has lost a fine priest, a fine human being who tried to apply his scholarly studies to day to day life of his flock. Perhaps his background and struggle as a child was a influence that brought him closer to suffering and struggling humanity. I used to visit him regularly and shared many thoughts with him. Spoke to him just a month ago and never thought he would depart this early. May he find eternal peace and rest.

Fr John Fernandes was truly pastor who led his flock in the right path. He decried regalia and overt religious display. His ministry was close to human values. Religion was way to connect better with fellow beings. A learned man he had world view of things. He enlightened the talents of others and. Thought them to the fore. I had several occasions to work with him on art camps, exhibitions sharing thoughts on culture. His contribution to further human welfare will be remembered in the years to come. Rest in Peace Fr John. You will be missed in our midst.

Saddened by the death of Fr John Fernandes, whom I saw young and attractive priest in 1976 as a boy at Hospet where he was the Parish Priest. Impressed by him decided to be a priest. It was the first time the parish Children, youth and elderly realised that one can talk , meet , and be with a priest , because till then , we were seeing parish priests elderly with long white beard , scared to talk and meet. Fr. John Fernandes with his liberation ideology… really impressed and motivated people of Hospet parish in spiritual , social , educational and economic development matters from 1976 till 1984. In Fr. John Fernandes as I have seen a person who never tolerated injustice , had great love for the poor and needy. Never sent the needy empty handed till the last moment of his life . He kept nothing for himself, he shared everything whatever he had or whatever his friends gave him with needy . May the great soul of Fr. John Fernandes Rest in peace.

A fine human being outreaching as a priest, friend, activist, critic, and humanist with profound honesty of purpose, he was. He was well informed and stood for certain causes in and through all his ministries. My association with him began when he invited me to be a resource person a number of times for praxis-oriented formation of seminarians in the final stages of their priestly studies. His last communication with me was when he published his autibiography and sent me a copy. All of us who knew him personally would miss a priest-friend of profound commitment. Dr A.S.Dasan

Most sad news. He was the gem.....he is the person for humanity and human values. The democratic and participatory ideology he preached and followed. He never hide himself away to speak truth and to stand with the truth. The duplicate natured authorities were scared of him as he was able to speak Truth with smiling face in all situations . He had all the ability and true Christian spirit to become Bishop or much above to that. But his straight forwardness, sometimes did not make authorities Happy to consider his merit, knowledge, and strong human side . A true Christian. He is the GURU for so many social Workers and leaders. He has touched the hearts of thousand of friends and his followers. Hard and painful to miss a true friend Fr. John Fernandes. We love you always. RIP.

Sorry to hear about the demise of our dear Fr. John Fernandes. We lost a well known, Intellectual, Friendly and highly educated priest of our time. As a youth I heard about his Spiritual and intellectual qualities through parents and the parisioners .He is a talented priest with friendly always smiling . His guidance and Biblical knowledge helped many youth and Seminarians to become priests and Nuns.. He is one among many Priests who contributed immensely for the growth of the Church through various capacities. As a prishioner I happend to meet him once very closely long time back. His friendly gesture and smile is in my memories though highly educated humble nature. It is a great loss for the Church and people. Pray that May God may give him Etrenal rest in Heaven and the strength to his family, Priests and friends, well wishers to bear this great loss.
