Former British PM Tony Blair Pelted with Eggs, Shoes

London, Sep 4 (IANS): Former British prime minister Tony Blair was Saturday pelted with eggs and shoes as the first public signing session to promote his memoirs in the Irish capital Dublin turned violent.

The protestors also surged towards Blair, who made an appearance at a bookshop to promote his book "A Journey", and tried to push down a security barrier but were repelled by police.

After the signing, the former prime minister was whisked from a side entrance of the store.

Three men were arrested after they broke through a security barrier outside Eason's bookshop on O'Connell Street in Dublin.

Protesters, who included anti-war activists, shouted "Whose cops? Blair's cops!" as they taunted the police while Blair remained inside the bookshop.

A protester from Dublin criticised both the police and the hundreds who had turned out for the book signing: "The police are west Brits who are protecting a British terrorist and the people queuing up over there should be ashamed of themselves. All these people buying the book are traitors."

Following the skirmishes, the city tram service was suspended and shops in the surrounding area were also closed.

In his memoirs which was released earlier this week, Blair defends his decision to go to war with Iraq in 2003. The book has become one of the fastest selling autobiographies on record.

Before the signing, Blair had already enraged the anti-war movement in Ireland with comments on an Irish TV programme Friday.

During his interview, Blair warned that Iran was now one of the biggest state sponsors of radical Islam. It must be prevented from developing a nuclear weapon, even if that meant taking military action, he said.

Blair defended the decision to invade Iraq in 2003, despite Saddam Hussein not possessing weapons of mass destruction.

He tried to convince the audience that he acted against the one million people who marched in opposition to the war because he could not take decisions "based on those that shout most".

It is believed he chose Ireland for his only live interview since his memoirs' publication because he felt he would get a better hearing because of the peace he secured in Northern Ireland.

Dear aboobaker uppala, uppala/Makkah, No compulsion in religion can I practice my religion freely, fearlessly without compulsion in Saudi Arabia. Is there a single temple, synagogue or church in KSA? There are scores of verses in the Koran which says kill Unbelievers. Women have no freedom. If Shahriah laws are implemented why there are so many criminals, robbers & killers. People are coming to Macca to perform Hajj & while performing Hajj 700 people were caught for pick pocketing pilgrims. Can you raise voice against Sunnis & against the administration of KSA or particular person in KSA not to label Shia's. How many terrorists are caught in KSA and are in jails?

Quran 3.28: Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends rather than believers and whoever does this, he shall have nothing of (the guardianship of) Allah, but you should guard yourselves against them, guarding carefully and Allah makes you cautious of (retribution from) Himself and to Allah is the eventual coming.
Quran 3.85: And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers.

    Bias
5:51 O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends: They are but friends to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

Mr. Santhosh Kumar, this Iraqi war, for the first time, had created a base for Al-Qaida to poison the innocent brain to terrorise the world, the children of those who were massacred, raped, tortured & burnt will turn into the future very-very dangerous destroyer of everything. The youngsters of other Muslim world who knows that it was a stage set war hence they may turn more hostile towards US/UK and further, US/UK had turned a democratic secular country into an unstable dangerously communal country. In the bargain the Western countries went into a major economic depression which is not showing the sign of recovery for another few years. Tragically, their economic slowdown will affect the whole world including our development. To conclude, as on date US/UK are few the most unpopular and decaying nations in the world.

War Monger Tony Blair is not selling his book, he is selling Iraqi and Sadams blood. Both Bush and Blair went to Iraq to get oil and they have it now.
Should Bush and Blair be tried for war crimes?and suffer the same fate as Sadam?
    You be the judge.

The Ex-Prime Minister Mr. Tony Blair was an excellent Prime Minister Britain ever had. I appreciate his move to support Iraq because Saddam Husain was a Sunni and a small minority of Sunni was controlling Shias with dictator rule plus. The dethroning of Saddam was imminent because he was a threat to Gulf States as well as the state of Israel.

Blair's hands are soaked with the blood of the innocent Iraqis. He should be punished by the World Court for his role of mass homicide in Iraq under Bush influence.
