Dadabhai Naoroji Remembered on His 185th Birth Anniversary


New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party chairman L.K. Advani Saturday paid floral tributes at the portrait of noted freedom fighter Dababhai Naoroji in the Parliament House on his 185th birth anniversary.

Naoroji, who was born in a Parsi family in Bombay Sep 4, 1825, was the president of the Indian National Congress thrice.

He died in Bombay June 30, 1917, at age 92.

Members of parliament, both present and past, and top parliament officials also paid floral tributes to Naoroji in the Central Hall of the Parliament House, said a Lok Sabha Secretariat release.

A booklet containing the profile of Dadabhai Naoroji, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries who attended the function.

The portrait of Dadabhai Naoroji was unveiled by the then Speaker of Lok Sabha G.V. Mavalankar in the Central Hall of Parliament House March 13, 1954.
