Mumbai ACP's Son, Daughter-in-law Shoot Themselves

Mumbai, Sep 3 (IANS): The son and daughter-in-law of a high-ranking Mumbai police officer allegedly committed suicide by shooting themselves here early Friday, police said.

"The blood-spattered bodies of Abhijit Kurane (28) and his wife Ashwini (21) were found this morning in their bedroom," Additional Police Commissioner Ramrao Pawar told mediapersons from the site of the tragedy in Malad west suburb.

The deceased were the son and daughter-in-law of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Madhukar Kurane, an official from Malad police station said.

The duo had shot themselves with Kurane's service revolver during the night and their bodies were discovered Friday morning, he added.

Police have sent the bodies for autopsy and investigation is on to find out the motive behind the drastic step.

However, the official could not confirm if ACP Kurane was present at home and how the service revolver came in the possession of his son and daughter-in-law. The family lived in Royal Apartments, in the posh Evershine Nagar locality of Malad west.
