Piped water supply to 25 lac rural houses this year under Jal Jeevan Mission

Bengaluru, Jun 22: As many as 25 lakh houses in rural areas will get piped water supply this year under the Jal Jeevan Mission as per the direction given by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to officials on Tuesday.

Reviewing the progress achieved under the Jal Jeevan Mission in his Home Office, Krishna, the Chief Minister took note of the fact over 28 lakh rural households out of the total of 91.91 lakh households in the State have been provided with active piped water supply connections and directed that the remaining 21.17 lakh households must be provided with piped water supply connections in a time-bound manner this year.

Briefing the Chief Minister on the progress achieved under Jal Jeevan Mission, officials said 435 multi-village programmes have been completed and another 69 were under different stages of implementation. Proposals for taking up another 161 programmes during the year 2021-22 have been submitted, the officials said.

Yediyurappa asked the officials to take up projects in places with assured water supply from river sources on priority basis and indicated that he will be holding video conference interactions with Chief Executive Officers of all Zilla Panchayats in the State.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa, Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary Dr E V Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Vanditha Sharma, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary I S N Prasad, Rural Development and Panchayat Department Additional Chief Secretary L K Atiq and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
