Mangaluru: Garbage handling in city – High court takes MCC to task

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 22: The state high court, expressing anger and disappointment at the state government's inaction, asked it not to become a silent spectator to the failure of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to handle solid waste disposal. It stated that the city corporation has failed to obey the court order on waste disposal and environmental protection. It asked the government to file a reply by July 8 regarding the compliance of its order.

A public interest litigation filed by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority on the failure to handle waste in a proper way by Mangaluru city municipal council, came up for hearing before a division bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice A S Oka, on Monday June 21.

The high court observed that the reports of the central environmental Pollution Control Board, Karnataka State Environment Pollution Control Board and NITK Surathkal, have highlighted the failures of the city corporation. It expressed anger at the fact that the municipality has not taken serious steps to address its mistakes.

The bench asked the state government to use its powers and take action. It is said that the city corporation may have to be superseded and an administrative officer may have to be appointed to run the administration.

MCC is doing good job compare to what it was 7-8 years , however it requires people's coopration and support for segregating the waste . In the meantime MCC should sagregate the corrupted waste within the council which is spoiling Mangalore name day by day.

Robert, next time don't waste your time in watching what they do. Just give your waste quickly and ask them to leave the spot. BTW, MCC cannot afford to appoint north American people if you wish so.
