Games Venues Won't be Ready Even if PM Mops the Floor: Modi

Ahmedabad, Aug 31 (PTI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today targeted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the Commonwealth Games preparations, saying even if he mops the floor the sports facilities will not be ready in time.

Observing that the preparations were in a "mess", Modi also taunted the CWG organisers telling them that any government body in Ahmedabad even would have ensured that all the stadia were ready before the commencement of the mega sporting event on October 3.

"I don't know what is happening in the Commonwealth Games. Even if the PM (Manmohan Singh) starts wiping the floor, the venues won't be ready for the game," Modi said at a function here.

"CWG people had four years to get the venues ready, but they are still struggling. They should have given it to Ahmedabad ( Municipal Corporation), which would have built those stadiums in time," Modi said.

The handing over of the games venues to the organisers has missed four deadlines prompting the prime minister to take charge to avoid further delays.

They were meant to be completed by August 31. Instead, blaming the rain, Union minister Jaipal Reddy, who heads a Group of Ministers supervising the Games, said some more days will be required.

Singh had visited the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium--the venue of opening and closing ceremonies - on Sunday to inspect the progress in preparations.

The alleged corruption and financial irregularties in the run-up to the Games also drew flak from Modi, who said even CBI cannot save the Congress and the Centre from the "CWG debacle".

Modi also spoke on other issues to target the Centre and the Congress.

Alleging misuse of CBI by Congress after arrest of his close aide and ex-minister Amit Shah in the Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, Modi said," Delhi Sultanate thinks that CBI can save them every time. But even CBI cannot save them from CWG debacle,"

Modi also warned the union government to stop threatening Gujarat in the name of CBI.

The BJP stalwart also said development of Gujarat for him was like doing a service to the nation.

"I do not need to do something separately. To ensure that no person in Gujarat falls sick and to ensure that people of the state get proper employment is my way of service to the nation," the CM said.

Modi also challenged the Union government calling it as 'Delhi Sultanate' and asked it to compete on development front.

"Even development is hurting some people. I have challenged this Delhi Sultanate, come and let us compete on development front, but they are not ready," he said.

"You (Union government) have the entire country and ours is a small state. It is my challenge that Gujarat would be ahead of the Delhi sultanate despite this," Modi said.

Now I can understand why his Visa to U.S. was rejected. He had applied for Visa for cleaning and mopping the streets of U.S., but fortunately U.S. is much more developed than Gujarat, which Modi may not know. Mr Modi you are like a frog in the well, just croaking as usual.

People trying to find faults with Modi statements have you ever criticized congress for insane amounts of corruption and loot in the name of commonwealth games.

The initial estimate for commonwealth games was around Rs 1000 and till now more than Rs 30000 crore. (30 times more) And even after that the work is shoddy. The day after inauguration of swimming arena the roof started leaking. They were patching the roof.

Road connecting to the stadium caved in day after it was completed. Most of the other stadiums are not complete. The stadium sites are breeding grounds for Dengue.

The residential facilities for the athletes is not complete with all the furniture rotting in rain outside.

And our most honest most innocent and most bestest PM has not yet fired Kalmadi..

But guys carry on your blame game on Modi

Mr. Modi, don't stoop so low because any of your out of box comments will not dent the giant personality of Hon. PM Manmohan Singh. But the whole world had judged your action and condemned you when India's National Human Rights Commission found evidence in the killings of premeditation by members of Hindu extremist groups complicity by Gujarat state government officials and police inaction in the midst of attacks on Muslims under your direct order as head of the state.

Mr. Modi, PM is not sleeping, he is looking after more than 100 crores of people and you only 2 to 5% of total population. If it would have been given to Gujrat, god only know how much misappropriation of funds would have been happened. Mr Modi, before you point your finger, see your state, what is going on. Godhra case, Amit Shah case. When whole country's responsibilities bestowed on your shoulder, you will also become PM Manmohan Singh. Instead, wish that the Common Wealth Games be a grand success and proud to be Indian and not BJP or congress. Be Indian and don't be Hinduisam. Let every citizen of India join together and pray that CWG 2010 be a grand success and our athletics bring laurels to India. Jai Bharat.

If Modi won the second time in Gujarat, then Dr Manmohan Singh won the nation for the second time, so all you fandus ( fundamentalists) please shut your mouths once and for all. It is better to have a sleeping PM as you call him ( even though he is not), than having one with the blood of hundreds on his hands. Remember justice has caught up with Sajjan Kumar after 26 years, so will it catch up with Modi sooner than later. He better worry about the tightening noose, than moping floors.

Comments are quite right. People in charge of CWG just concentrated on making money and not on meeting schedules. And I am ashamed that we have to suffer and tolerate a tainted person like Kalmadi. If we don't get any medal in the games we'll definitely be awarded a gold medal for being the most corrupt.

Look who is speaking! Why dream about Delhi Mr CM? You and your administration has not been able to maintain the historical MSCG stadium of Rajkot and you are speaking about building new one in Delhi? The lush green MSCG cricket stadium has virtually been turned into concrete slab. Even the Saurastra cricket association which was looking after this stadium is today mourning the death of MSCG. Mr Modi is also the president of Gujarat cricket association but still allows the Rajkot stadium to use for all purposes other than cricket. Even Saurastra cricket association's new stadium which is coming up on the ourskirts is languishing. Better concentrate your energies on Gujarat only since it is only in Gujarat that you can win election. The day you step out of Gujarat, you will be a loser. Don't blame any political party or leader for CWG mess. It is the result of our entire system. Why VK Malhotra and Arun Jaitley are silent about CWG mess, do you know Mr CM? Simply because Delhi municipality which is headed by BJP one of the six prominent committees of CWG and it's name has already cropped in the corruption. After all it's not secret that the NDA govt virtually bribed to get the CWG to India by promising air ticket and US $100000 to each participating country. So corruption is in the roots of CWG. When roots only are venomous, how can the fruits be sweet sir? Continue fooling Gujaratis for some more time but not Indians if you have to survive politically.
