Chinese Airline Involved in Crash Suspends Operations

Beijing, Aug 26 (IANS): The company whose aircraft was involved in Tuesday's deadly crash which killed 42 people and injured 54 has decided to cancel all its flights for safety reviews, officials said.

The operations of Henan Airlines, based in Henan province, would be suspended for an unspecific time, said Wu Zhenkun, an official with the provincial aviation regulatory committee.

A Henan Airline jet crashed during landing at the airport in Yichun city in Heilongjiang province Tuesday night, killing 42 and injuring 54 people.

The suspension of flights, however, led to complaints from travelers in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan, Xinhua reported.

Yang Ning, a college student from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was waiting for air travel clearance.

"Our flight was expected to take off. We were told the flight was cancelled much later than that. And the airline gave no explaination," said Yang.

Staff from Henan Airlines said passengers whose flights were cancelled have been offered flight rearrangement.
