Udupi: DC Jagadeesha cautions people against being negligent about Covid

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB)

Udupi, May 8: “People are neglecting their health these days. Symptomatic people are not getting themselves tested. People coming for ventilator facilities will not be entertained. We are not responsible for their negligence. If anyone has mild symptoms, the person should come to hospital. Do not come after the situation gets worse,” said district commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha.

He was speaking at a press meet held on Saturday May 8 at zilla panchayat meeting hall here. He further said, “There is no shortage of oxygen or ventilators in Udupi. There are 1,300 beds, out of which 350 beds are occupied.”

Speaking on the Covid protocols to be followed during the lockdown, he said, “Construction activities should be done adhering to national directives for Covid -19 management. Industry should keep the required materials in stock for 15 days. There is no opportunity for any transportation related to construction materials. Building owners should take the responsibility of construction workers. If anybody wants to go to their hometown, they have time till Monday morning before 6 am. If building owners leave their construction workers mid-way, criminal case be filed against them.

“All should follow the lockdown rules from May 10 to 24,” he said.

He further said, “Six metric tonne oxygen is available at the district hospital in Ajjarkad. Belapu liquid oxygen plant has 25 metric tonne storage capacity. Ten metric tonne of liquid oxygen will be supplied by this Sunday.

“As much as 90% of the Covid patients do not require oxygen beds and home isolation is enough. Only 100 people require beds. Out of that 20 patients require ICU beds and 20 people need oxygen facility. No need to panic about availability of beds. Most of the people think about ventilator facilities, though it is not required.

“Fishing activities are allowed, but people should not go to harbour to purchase fish. Wholesalers can sell fish to retailers. Retailers can undertake door-to-door selling.

“Inter-state and inter-district movement is strictly prohibited except during health emergency. Health officials are allowed to move from one district to another and inter-state, but ID card should be presented. There is no restriction on travelling on train and flight.

“Permission is given for movement of taxis and auto rickshaws only for health reasons,” he said.

Zilla panchayat CEO Dr Naveen Bhat Y, MLAs Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji Mendon, president of Coastal Development Authority Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, and others were present.

What's the plan to ensure non stop supply of vaccines and oxygen? Asking only the public to be responsible while you are escaping from your responsibility is not fair

No Melvin, in Kerala we can’t do that..... After routing the Feku and Motu bhai, though people wanted to celebrate..... in deference to our CM, we did not sing and dance we know that when he says, he means and it will be one and the same for all..... but In Udupi, we understand there is one law for the privileged and another for the less privileged as per https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kHBIOPyd-0 ..... So wanna confirm for the sake of my family and friends over there.....

As our coastal area is witnessing rains from a few days cold & cough with slight fever is normal thing which shouldn't be considered as corona infections. People should only get admitted into hospitals if their symptoms worsen & not just get in & overwhelm the system as D C wants to. Providing ventilators is not cure all solution as the success rate of them is only around 5%. Healthy or young people shouldn't flock the hospital thereby denying the real patients who need them than them. The best thing they can do is never panic or fear, use prone position if breathing becomes difficult, use small hand held fan to blow more air onto their face for 15 minutes which helps the oxygen saturation to improve by 4 to 5 points. & don't believe the oxymeter readings if they show below 80 or 60 while you feel no tightness in the chest, most of the times they are at fault & the readings aren't reliable. Take lot of fluids but better to take pineapple & other citrus fruit juices with the fiber which helps the lungs to decongest & to prevent further damage to the lungs. These home remedies are helping more people to avoid joining hospitals & get cured at their home itself according to practicing doctor. If fever is below 102 he doesn't advise them to take paracetamol but to apply ice water dipped cloth on forehead & legs to keep the temperature in check. Fever helps to neutralize viruses & our antibodies & killer cells do the rest.

@ Dev How will you differentiate between Mansoon cold cough fever & covid fever ? both come with same symptoms, isn't it fair to get RTPCR test ? if it comes positive means RNA sars 2 is detected inside nasal cavity bcoz he/ she tested 3 days after incubation period, if it's negative means virus hasn't been fully developed.. this is where younger generation & most of ppl neglect. it's better to be get tested after 2 days in a Pvt hospital as report becomes confidential & health workers won't visit homes or tell neighbours that he/she is positive.

Now, because of complete lack of scientific leadership & coordination of the administration we have reached this stage; what else can you say than to push the buck on innocent starving citizens just to save your seat! In fact, it's the best time to accept defeat & quit IMHO!
