Malaika Credit Co-operative Society Unveils Impressive Financial Results

Mumbai, Aug 9: The tenth annual general body meeting of Malaika Co-operative Credit Society of Malaika Group was held at St Joseph’s Church auditorium, Mira Road, here on Sunday August 8.

Malaika Group chairman Gilbert Baptist presided. T 3 Urban Developers Limited managing director V P Lobo was the chief guest.

Fr Dominic Vaz, parish priest of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road, Lawrence Coelho, editor of metro published Konkani illustrated weekly, entrepreneur Clifton D’Silva and chartered accountant Eshwar Chavan were the guests of honour.

Gilbert Baptist in his presidential address said that the credit co-operative societies in the country has bright future, as it is popular among the common masses by providing flexible loans and also promotes savings among the people from Below Poverty Limit (BPL) families. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also encourages societies as they base their lending on micro finance, said Gilbert.

While elaborating on the society’s stronger financial results for this year, Gilbert said that it has reached fixed deposits to the tune of Rs 24.44 crore, advances of Rs 25.30 lac and share capital of Rs 63.99 lac. The net profit amounted to Rs 10 lac, added Gilbert.

V P Lobo said that credit co-operative societies has a bright future despite the rapid changes that take place in the banking sector.  He also conveyed best wishes for the society to excel in year after year.

Fr Dominic Vaz said that the Christian community yet to explore their full potential in business in our country. The societies indeed cater to the financial needs of common people, said Fr Dominic.

Fr Deepak Thomas of Mira Road parish offered the Thanksgiving Holy Mass on the occasion.

Mira Road corporator Merlyn D’Sa, Walter D’Souza Jerimeri, Robert Sequeira Vakola, Mira Road assistant parish priest Fr Ivan D’Souza, Sr Pushpa, Sr Rani and Sr Mercy among others were present.

The society secretary Wilfy J Rodrigues, treasurer Manohar R Shetty, directors Dinesh T Poojary, Alex S Fernandes, Sushanth S Sabat and Teja Ravindra Shetty among others wer also present.

The society chief executive officer Marceline G Baptist welcomed the gathering. Director Joseph R Lobo presented the annual report. Naveen Kulshekar compered the programme.

Variety entertainment programmes were staged by Kenny and group.
