Early Exit for Indians in Archery World Cup


Kolkata, Aug 7 (IANS): Indian archers faced an early elimination in the individual round of the Archery World Cup Stage III at Ogden in the US.

Only two women archers, Dola Banerjee and Deepika Kumari, managed to reach the pre-quarterfinals before bowing out. Dola fell to Shanshan Zhu of China while Deepika lost to Joo Hyun-Jung of South Korea, according to information received here Friday.

L. Bombayla Devi crashed to Dola in the second round while Punya Prabha was defeated by Justyna Mospinek of Poland in the first round Thursday.

In the men’s competition, Tarundeep Rai bowed to Sebastian Rohrberg of Germany in the second round as veteran Mangal Singh Champia was no match to Elian Cuesta of Spain in the opening round. Kapil lost to Fujun Yong of China in the first round and debutant K. Shiva Shankar surrendered to the highly ranked Oh Jin Hyek of South Korea.

Earlier Wednesday, the men’s team stood third overall with a total of 1,982. The women’s team ended sixth overall with 1,915 points.
