Panaji, Aug 4:  With the opening of the Hydrology Project Data Centre and Laboratory level II in Porvorim by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat recently, the information related to hydrology is now made available at one’s finger tips.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by minister for water resources Philipe Neri Rodrigues, MLA Dayanand Narvekar, chief secretary Sanjay Srivastava, secretary for water resources Ashok Acharya and Gupesh Naik, zilla panchayat member.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamat said that the HP Laboratory  built in Goa is one of the best equipped water quality laboratories in India  and that it will greatly help to ensure the water quality in Goa.

Philipe Neri Rodrigues highlighted the importance on hydrological data to conserve and protect the Goa’s water resources. He said HP data centre has become indispensable to ensure good quality hydrological data and to encourage the use of data.

Ashok Acharya emphasized the importance of water and pointed out that without water there cannot be any development and there can be no life.

The Hydrologic Project (HP), an initiative of the Government of India and the World Bank, is among the most crucial water projects for India.

Goa is one of the states involved in the hydrology Project. Goa water resources department installed the basic infrastructure to measure the various water bodies in the state. The data centre was built to have a place where all the data can be brought together, validated and organized in such manner that it can be disseminated among those who need hydrological information.
