People criticise Udupi DC's intensified drive against those not wearing masks

Udupi, Apr 20: Widespread criticism is expressed by the public on social media on the action of deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha, who made standing passengers in buses to get down citing more people than Covid protocol on Monday April 19.

The DC carried out a sudden drive against those who were not wearing masks on Monday. While checking buses at Santhekatte, he made passengers who were standing in buses to get down saying that the number of passengers are more than specified in Covid protocol. This caused inconvenience to many passengers who travel daily to Udupi, including students.

Speaking to the media, a girl student said, "We come to Udupi from the village. If DC makes us get down from the bus, we do not have other buses to reach home. If we are late in reaching home, our parents feel anxious." This video has gone viral on social media.

The public have questioned the DC and asked, "You made the video and went home. Who will make alternative arrangements for the girls who are left half way to reach home?"

DC Sir, please go full throttle. We need a stiff lesson. Full Throttle. If one has to wear pants for social decency, why not a mask for self & social protection? Please go a step ahead and ensure that the masks are decent, N95 equivalent. Modiji has made N95 masks affordable for a paltry Rs 20/- in Generic Pharmacies.

Before taking any strict measures dont forget to arrange alternate arrangements for poor specially comes from outside of Udupi. Arrange them transporration to reach home before Sungoes down. Sitting home & supporting like a Andhbhakth to a rude decision was not a solution for childrens agony.

Rich people can solve their own problems but poor people need support from govt As a student from a economically middle class background we don’t have money to buy a scooter or come by cabs not we have enough money to treat of any one from my family gets COVID so we are dependent on the govt Let DC get more busses for students to travel or simple cancel exams It’s that simple instead of making us suffer I read a comment about a girl here what she said is true politicians or officials don’t know the ground reality they just implement rules Last year when Modi ji put lockdown with only 4 hrs of notice many migrant workers suffered with no ways to get home You say solve your own problem as any other problem There officials are public servant they should make sure no public is taxed because of their incapablity to implement solutions

Alternative arrangements should be made before implementing such rules especially with girl students who have to travel from far off villages! DC should, instead, raid bars and pubs where most of the rules are not blatantly violated.

Students have more knowledge and intelligent than DC, Officers are good to pressure poor and helpless people. Salute to the student power who has daring to question DC. Without knowing ground reality officers are trying to implement rules and regulations, Students are coming from villages to attend exam, every minute is important for them to study. Why officers not postpone exam? if they know that Covid cases are increasing? Without solutions, they should not harass students and daily working class.

aarthi shetty, mangalore, I have no words to express in your comments. I fully understand what you and others have been going through in your travel to college and back due to this Covid-19 which has devasted the careers of many students right from KG to upper up's. I wish you and all the other student's good luck in the coming year. Just pray to God everything will be OK. I feel sorry for my daughter and son who are having good jobs and working happily with no choice. Unfortunately, my wife and myself are held up in India due to this deadly Covid-19 but are spending our retired life.

Do not blame the DC he is right in taking action. When rules are implemented follow the rules do not give lame excuses. I fully support the DC if you want to spoil his name or you do not want him do not create stories. He is trying to protect the Second wave but politicians trying to create a bad impact on him. This DC has done a lot of improvements but we forget. The student who commented is just a political gimmick created.

Mr. Pai, why you do not suggest to the local MLA who opposes the curfew and attends functions openly. Who is going to prevent him. If so then the local MLA. Will the DC punish him. The local MLA should be held responsible for not postponing the exams or closing the colleges. Everybody is demanding to postpone VTU & MU exams. But the politicians insist and conduct them to show their pride.
