Puttur, Apr 17: All around the globe electricity production through green energy is being given importance instead of fuel. Solar energy is getting prominence now. Many steps are taken in India also to produce electricity through solar energy. Many units of this kind are working in the country now. The government has also requested all public and private industries to use solar energy and produce electricity required for their use. In the midst of all this, projects are made to establish solar energy producing units in all government offices. Many in the country have already come up with their own solar energy units already.

In Karnataka too, solar electricity units have started functioning. Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) building in the taluk is the first APMC in the state which has installed a solar electricity unit. In the many new projects which APMC Puttur has implemented, in the midst of accusation that APMCs are going to bite dust after the implementation of new agricultural laws, solar electricity generating units are also one. This unit has the capacity to produce 22 kv of electricity. Rs 25 lac is spent in installing this unit. A system is put in place whereby the electricity produced from this unit directly gets supplied to Mescom grid.

On an average, Puttur APMC pays one lac rupees to electricity bill every month. Now due to the installation of the new solar electricity unit it is going to save some amount. A special meter is also placed in the APMC yard to measure the amount of electricity that is being supplied to Mescom grid from APMC.

According to APMC secretary Ramachandra and president Dinesh Medu, nearly Rs 40,000 can be saved on the electricity bill every month. The company which installed the solar electricity unit is going to maintain the same and there is no issue for the unit to function for five to six years without any malfunctioning.
