By-election to Village Panchayat Wards on Aug 29

Panaji, Jul 31: The State Election Commission will conduct by–elections to fill up the vacant posts of village panchayat members in 13 wards of 13 village panchayats in six talukas on Sunday August 29.

The Vacancies are as follows- In Bicholim taluka of Karapur/Sarvan Panchayat in ward no 11, Bardez taluka Verla Canca Panchayat in ward no 3 (Reserved for OBC), Revora Panchayat in ward no 7(reserved for OBC), Oxel Panchayat in ward no 4(reserved for OBC); in Ponda taluka Veling –Priol Panchayat in ward no 3(reserved for S.T.), Tivre-Orgao Panchayat in ward no 2 (reserved for OBC); in Tiswadi taluka St. Estevam Panchayat in ward no 1 (reserved for women); in Sattari taluka Querim Panchayat in ward no 3, and Sanvordem Panchayat in ward no 4; in Salcete taluka Assolna Panchayat ward no 2 (reserved for OBC), Nuvem Panchayat in  ward no 4, Curtorim Panchayat in ward no 2 (reserved for women) and in Chinchinim Deussa Panchayat in ward no 2.

The nomination papers will be accepted by the returning officers between 10.00 am to 1.00 pm from August 2, 2010 to August 09, 2010 except on Sunday, August 8, 2010. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on August 10, 2010 from 10.00 am onwards. Withdrawal of nomination papers can be done on August 11, 2010 from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. Poll will be taken on August 29, 2010 from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm and counting of votes will be done on August 30, 2010 from 8.00 am onwards at the office of the respective Mamlatdars.

The mamlatdars of the respective Talukas have been appointed as the returning officers to conduct the by – elections. The poll will be taken by ballot. A voter in a ward is entitled to cast only one vote.  The form of nomination paper will be available in the office of the returning officer during office hours.

In case of a general seat a sum of Rs 100 in case of a seat reserved for woman or a person belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe/ Other Backward Class, a sum of Rs 50 is required to be deposited with the returning officer on or before the date fixed for receiving the nomination paper.
