Mangaluru, Apr 12: Under instructions from the government, night curfew is in place within the city corporation limits here. On Saturday night, cases were registered against 64 two-wheelers and four four-wheelers for violating the curfew norms.

The police who have formed check posts on different roads have been booking vehicles which are found moving under circumstances that are not compelling. At 10 pm, city police commissioner, S Shashi Kumar, deputy commissioners of police, Vinay A Gaonkar and Hariram Shankar, visited different places in the city and oversaw the situation.

A video of former minister, B Ramanath Rai, talking to the police and arranging for the smooth movement of vehicles by re-arranging barricades at Padil junction, after finding that barricades were obstructing traffic, has become viral in the social media.

The police have been keeping a close watch on pubs, bars and restaurants. In Udupi district, no cases of curfew violations were registered, said assistant superintendent of police, Kumar Chandra. Some vehicles which were found on the road after 10 pm because of lack of knowledge about the curfew norms, were educated about the guidelines and sent away with a warning.

Deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha, visited police check posts set up at different parts of the city on Saturday night. He stopped vehicles moving about after 10 pm, and instructed them to follow government instructions in order to control spread of coronavirus infection without fail.
