Udupi, Apr 5: "The private and government health personnel have done an excellent job in the district. The death percentage due to Covid in Udupi is just 0.75%. Our district is one of the few districts in the country which has recorded such a low death rate and it has become a model for other districts and states," said deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha.

Speaking at the press conference, the DC said, "The number of deaths due to coronavirus are least in our district. Our health personnel fought relentlessly to save lives and succeeded. I assure that we will fight in the same way in the coming days also.

"Manipal Institute of technology (MIT) is converted as a containment zone in the wake of an increased number of coronavirus cases in their campus. Now the positive cases have reduced by 15%. Only because of our health department personnel, the positive cases could be brought down on the campus. In addition to an apartment building and two schools are also converted as containment zones as more positive cases were reported.

"Incidents of coronavirus cases are increasing in the country day by day. The government has taken measures to control the same. If the public follows all guidelines without fail, it is possible to eradicate the pandemic,” he said.

The DC also said that in the wake of more coronavirus cases reported among students of colleges and schools, the government has declared holidays for them.
