Chikkamagaluru, Mar 24: Rarely one finds examples where the mothers allow their own daughters getting raped willingly. In an incident reported from a village in Sringeri taluk where a 15-year old girl was raped by over 30 persons, it has come to light that for this girl's mother, this was a business.

Relating to the above incident which happened during the end of January, the police have arrested 32 persons. The police were taken aback when they came to know that the lady who claimed herself as the aunt of the girl till then in fact was her real mother. The lady from north Karnataka had married there and given birth to a baby girl.

Later, she married a person from Sringeri taluk. After some days, she brought her daughter to Sringeri, and told others that she happens to be her sister's daughter. After her husband distanced himself from her, the lady found a way of earning money by using her daughter, it is said.

The girl was raped more than 30 times between September 1, 2020 and January 27, 2021. The mother, instead of complaining to the police, had turned this into a means to make money. On many days she was raped by three persons on a single night. This girl clearly identified the culprits when they were paraded in her presence. Many said that the girl is so weak that it is difficult to imagine how she could have suffered the agony silently.

Relating to the incident, on the allegation of showing neglect towards the case, Sringeri police circle inspector was suspended while police sub-inspector was transferred. A new team formed under additional superintendent of police N S Shruti, and Sringeri rural police sub-inspector Gaviraj, has succeeded in investigating the case properly and bringing to book those involved.
