Margao: Excise Department Seizes Liquor Worth Rs 20 Lac

Margao, Jul 18:  The excise department raided a bungalow at Sheler- Canacona, the Goa-Karnataka border and seized alcohol worth rupees 20 lac on Saturday July 17.

According to excise department officials a site worker named John Munz, native of Jharkhand, has been detained and the main accused, Legorio D’ Souza, owner of bungalow is absconding since the raid. Efforts are on to nab him.

24 barrels containing alcohol and seven barrels of liquor, refilling machine, labeling machine, empty bottles were found on the site. It has been seized by the department.

Speaking to Daijiworld correspondent, superintendent of excise department Navnath Naik said that the possibility of suspects smuggling the liquor bottles to Karnataka state cannot be ruled out as the site is situated on the border.

Excise officials Rajesh Salkar, Maheshwar Pai, Hasan Khan, Anant Divkar under the guidance of Naik raided the site. Excise Inspector Shaba Naik has the taken the responsibility of further investigation.
