Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy to commemorate Dr Sushila Upadhyaya on Mar 20

Udupi, Mar 17: Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy as part of International Women’s Day in cooperation with Kota Dr Karanth Foundation will commemorate Dr P Sushila Upadhyaya, the first member of the Academy who studied the Beary script and its grammar and secured a PhD. The ceremony will take place on March 20 at 2 pm.

Academy registrar, Poornima, speaking at a press meet in Udupi on Wednesday said that the programme will be inaugurated by the district assistant public prosecutor, Mumtaz. Academy president, Rahim Uchil will preside over the programme. Government First Grade College, Hiriadka, principal Dr Niketan will give a special lecture on Dr Upadhyaya.

Special women achievers in various sectors will be felicitated by Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty in the programme at 4 pm. Foundation president, Anand C Kunder will distribute prizes.             

Mehendi competition for women will be held. Winners will be awarded Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 as prizes. Winners of the musical chair competition will receive Rs 1,000 and Rs 500.
