Karnataka Guv Trying to Destabilise State Government: BJP

New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday alleged that Karnataka Governor H.R. Bharadwaj was trying to "destabilise" its government in the state and said it would ask President Pratibha Patil to "check" him.

The BJP's reaction came as Bharadwaj Tuesday met the president here and stated later that corruption would not be allowed to flourish in the state.

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the governor, "a Congress loyalist", was campaigning against the BJP and had no right to intervene in the democratically elected government.

"Mr. Bharadwaj should decide once and for all whether he is he holding a constitutional post or he is a rank agent of the Congress party... The kind of statement he has made, we take strong offence to it and we will demand from the president of India to 'please check your governor'," Prasad said.

"The governor cannot become an agent to destabilise the government which has been popularly elected," he added.

The opposition Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) legislators are holding a protest in the Karnataka assembly against illegal mining, in which two state ministers are allegedly involved. They are demanding a probe by the CBI into the illegal mining.

The Reddy brothers, Tourism Minister G. Janardhana Reddy, his elder brother and Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy, and younger brother and assembly member G. Somashekara Reddy, are accused of large-scale illegal mining in Bellary as well as neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The brothers own the Obulapuram Mining Company.

Between 2003 and now, over 30 million tonnes of iron ore has been illegally mined and exported from Karnataka causing a huge revenue loss. Congress and JD-S claim that the illegal mining scam is worth around Rs.60,000 crore (Rs.600 billion).

Mr. Bharadwaj needs to explain to the country his dubious role in helping the italian businessman, Mr. Quotrocchi, in many ways including defreezing the account containing money looted from India. Until such time he must shut up and stop preaching probity in public life. He is nothing but a reject of the delhi madam sent to bangalore and now desperately trying to do things to get into madams good books again.

Its a joke. Billons of Rupees getting swindled by Reddy's and BJP, both are beneficiaries of illegal mining. Why the CM has anything to fear if there is nothing wrong done by Reddy's and BJP? He is pretty sure CBI will expose all his ministers and eventually loose his chair. With 50,000cr illegal mining money - reddy's are not there in power for sake of poor, they are there to make that money as legal(Black money to white).

Why Blame the Governor-while the ruling party itself is presenting the governor on a platter chance or half chance to dismiss the govt., by not taking any steps against erring or accused, Tainted ministers, until they are proven clean. The C M has to take responsibility of bringing down the govt. by not initiating any steps against corrupt collegues, unklike the previous time HDK was accused & got sympathy votes in the last election. People have lost faith in this govt., as they see no difference between this & previous govts. They might choose a different party in next election as they don't have a right to call back those, whom they had voted to power.

Mr Ravi Shanker who has to blame for Governor's activism in the affairs of popularly elected govt??It is State BJP unit which invited Governor's interference. Why don't BJP state unit advises Reddy brothers not to do illegal mining or office of the profit besides indulging in unrulely behaviours in Assembly.BJP digging it's own grave in Karnataka. It is really unfortunate for a popularly elected govt embarassed by office of the governor. Also this is not good sign for the lovers of democracy.
