Play Marathi Songs or 'Face Music' - Thackeray's Warning to FM Channels

PTI

Mumbai, Jul 11: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Saturday warned all private FM channels to start broadcasting Marathi songs within seven days or else 'face the music'.

"It has been noticed that many FM channels do not play Marathi songs. They should start airing them in a week or else Sena would launch an agitation," Thackeray said in a statement here.

"Now a days anyone gets up and betrays Mahrashtra...radio stations are added to this list now," Thackeray said.

Any radio station not complying with his directive would face 'Sena-style' agitation, the Sena chief said.

Reacting to Thackeray's statement, noted musician Koustub Inamdar said, "it is good if FM channels wake up after Sena chief's remarks. What is really needed is Marathi audience listeners wake up.".

It is the peoples prerogative which language to study, hear music. In fact music has no language. Dont follow TN style. students and people of TN are a spoiled lot. Follow INDIAN style or GLOBAL style to prosper.Let us be broad minded. Never follow Thakeray style. It is harmful to you and to the nation.Reformed mind is the need for us to have national UNITY.Who is he to say which language i should study/listen/broadcast.Never follow the politicians.Have your own conciousness for this.

Mr. Balshaheb is more honest, blunt leader & politician of Maharastra. The message is crystal clear. Air marathi songs. Nothing wrong.
If Mr. Balshaheb has said FM channels should air only Marathi songs, then something wrong. Here what we undertand from the news is air Marathi songs at least for few minutes or for some time in a day is tolerable. It is always advantage to learn more languages.

Nothing wrong in Bal Thackeray's message. The way it was conveyed is wrong. Even in Mangalore, if we do not act now, our loving languages will be taken over by neighboring states, as is the case of Bajpe airport & Mangaore Railways Station. Invoke unity among Mangaloreans or our Mangalore will become worst than Maharashtra. We will be starngers in our own hometown.

Why so much cry over this issue? If someone else than Bal Thakarey said then it is acceptable! Offcourse yes he is a nuissance to Maharashtra as well as India. But his demand this time, asking for broadcasting Marathi songs is justified because he is asking it for MAHARASHTRA only. Let them play, if you don't like it turn the knob. So simple.... Thakarey can only force to play but not to listen...

There s nothing wrong Shri Balasahebji warning private FM channels to start broadcasting Marathi songs. All FM channels in Mumbai play hindi and English songs only. Hardly few hours are reserved for marathi music. Marthi music has melody, listenable and enjoyable. A request from Thakerasaheb would have been appropriate, instaed of warning.

Balasaheb is well aware that Marathi Theatres in stronghold areas of maharasthrians have closed down because of the same threat given when few marathi theatres started screening other language movies. Our emotion to our mother tongue and a demand for any movie or songs are decided by the viewers and be it the Channel or the Theatre, the owners go by that. I suppose Balasaheb Thackeray himself is capable to starting a channel of his choice rather than threatening somebody.

Wake up call to mangaloreans too.

When Goa became the Konkan state, Konakani got its heart-beat.

If all the local channels broadcast/telecast only English and Hindi, tomorrow we would see Tulu in endangered language list.
Whenever I went the big-shops, my Tulu was never answered in Tulu, rather in English. I always resisted to open my mouth in English.

Nothing wrong here in marathi land. Why did not others raise this issue, why Thackery had to open his mouth when it comes to marathi? Look at what he said instead of looking at him.

Look at Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam folks. They are doing a good job. You get answers only in their language irrespective of what language you use.

Music channels are there to serve the general-public and not the Sena-general. Few mischievious politicians & religious leaders are polarising the unity of our country. Do the Govt of these State have the guts to put them behind bars and throw the key into the deep sea? If Sena-general is so keen, let his start few channels and play the music of his choice and he will not care to bother what Marathi-manus wants. Stop such goonda-raj in the name of religion, region and language.

Hi.....friends.........pls don't understimate Mr.Bal.thackrey.Within some years we all will forget our own languages. Now itself on daily basis in the world so many languages are dissapearing. We blame malayalam speaking people.....we all say they speak their language every where in the world. You should be proud of your mother toungue and local languages.Even you can see all the big sports personalities or some countries politicians wherever they go they speak in their own languages because they ae proud of their languages.

Hope coming years we all forget our own traditions and values(people see jathak's before mariage and good day to mary) and keep the name according to the time n so on.Be indian and support your languages before it vanish. We talk about youngsters only language they no is English. where it is required in work place i agree.but at home atleast teach your languages. In india if you go to some states they only speak their state languages.

Only when in Maharastra something they come up with good cause you people talk.If you talk about the Old man as commented by rosario(When a person looses balance, accident happen, how come nothing happens to our grandfather.?) i feel he will not give respect to his own parents or grandparents.

Mr. Thackeray’s demand is highly justified. If Maharashtrians want their songs to be played in Mumbai, why should we worry about that? It’s their right to demand. If you don’t give importance to sentiments of local population, then you have no right to live in that place. Kannadigas are facing similar problem in Bengaluru. Hence, those who know the pain of Kannadigas in Bengaluru, will by default have sympathy for Marathis in Mumbai.

I see nothing wrong with the view that FM channels should air in the local language though I want to get into discussion about the person raising it. Go to Chennai/Hyd, channels they play local language all the time. Why Mumbaikars have to listen to someone else's language music? After all, Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra which is formed on the Marathi language basis

The worst fanatic I have ever seen in recent Indian history. He lives in the past and does not want to grow up. My only concern is that how and why does the government allow him to carry out his weird whims and fancies in these modern times. I feel the only solution to this menace is right minded and progressive people should stand up against his tyranny and bring about change. People have to show him that Mumbai can survive and progress without Marathi or the fanatic Shiv Sena.
