Olympic Champ Fraser Suspended over Doping

Hamburg, Jul 9 (DPA): Olympic and world 100 metres champion Shelly-Ann Fraser of Jamaica is provisionally suspended for failing a doping test, the ruling body IAAF confirmed Friday.

"The IAAF can confirm now that Shelly-Ann is provisionally suspended by the IAAF after a test at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting," IAAF spokesman Nick Davies told the DPA.

Davies said that the IAAF will not further comment on the case until the Jamaican federation JAAA has decided on her fate.

Fraser was due to run in Thursday's Diamond League meet in Luasanne, Switzerland. But her Jamaican club said earlier in the day that she tested positive for oxycodone at the May 23 Shanghai event.

The substance was reportedly in a painkiller given to Fraser over a dental problem. It is said to be not a performance-enhancing drug, but must be declared ahead of tests, which appears not to have happened in Fraser's case.
