Mangaluru: Money squandered - Concrete road dug within a month of inaugural

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 4: In the recent past, it has become common for people to come across concrete roads in the city being dug up within weeks of their inaugural for various purposes. The departments concerned are becoming a laughing stock for turning concrete roads into a series of patchworks.

Because of substandard works, a concrete road has been dug, The people are of the opinion that the officials concerned should be held accountable and they should be subjected to stringent steps.

The road connecting car street and Sharavu temple had a lot of potholes. Therefore, a new concrete road was planned under the smart city project. This new road was inaugurated a month back. Now it is being dug up.

When executing the road work, on account of the carelessness of the officials, concrete pieces were dropped into the manhole located on this road. This went unnoticed when building the road. Now within a month of road completion, effluents from the manhole began to spring out of the manhole. This created problems for the people living on either side of the road.

Therefore the road has been dug, and work is in progress.

Former corporator, Manjula Nayak, said that improper works under the Smart City project were conducted. She says that the local corporator, to whose attention the problem was brought, did not respond properly. A local, Namadev Nayak, said that taxpayers money has gone waste because of substandard work. Corporator, Poornima, said that because of the carelessness of officials, concrete pieced fell into the manhole. She said the work will be completed within three days, duly adding that the MLA has been informed about the officials who showed negligence in this case.

When any Govt Contract is awarded for Infrastructure/ Road Works , the Contractor has a liability/ Guarantee period of 1 year to maintain any substandard works/d/failure under the Contract. The above case is clear negligence of Incompetent Contractor and it is his responsibility to repair whatever required without any additional payment for repair works. But Govt Authorities must ensure that Reinstatement works are as good as Original Contracted works

The repair works should have been given to the same contractor who has done the said road concreting works, without any pay. Then these people will understand the seriousness of the work. Further the Engineer & supervisors responsible for this work has to be dismissed. Is it possible to do this ? by the corporation authorities???? If they are not corrupt yes it possible. Or else live with it again and again.

All the politicians are corrupt, no one is bothered to work with responsibility to beautify the nation. All are busy trying to make money by compromising the quality of construction for the public, but when it comes to constructing their own property they want the best quality. This is the mentality of our own citizens. If we don't change our mind set then we don't know where our future generations will stand.

Years back during Vajpayee rule ,main roads were concretised in a hurry .Very nice. But it was done without putting into place services ,like water pipes ,drain cum sewage lines, gutters, bus stop bays ,tree lining, road lighting. We remember that as many people still say it was terrific ,what progress. Now those same roads,Keep getting dug for sundry purposes.one can see drinking water lines passing through gutters ,similar also electric wires. As the city grows,so will rats and other creatures which will be passing time gnawing at those wires and pipes. What can one say? We have no pied pier.

These corporators and MLA are a waste. They do nothing for the public after being elected. They hardly have time to listen and act on the grievances. God only knows why are they so proud of themselves.

This is only a tip of a iceberg. There are so many public works which are not planned and not scientifically executed. Since it does not cost the elected representatives, officials anything.

Wait for few months and You public will see Kodialbail PVS Circle Kambala. Stupid Brain dead People demolished the Kudmul Hostel and dumped building material inside the new Rain Gutter. Now when it raains Mud saturated with water will flow on road and then? Padestrians will celebrate PVS Holi feast from speeding vehicles throwing Mud on them as celebrationn of Smart City Day.. 2 months back I met Personally Mr V Kamath MLA at BJP Office and asked Him to visit the site so that I will show Him the problems. He told me that He will be there shortly but never showed up as I waited for HALF HOUR. May be He got call from Nethravathi Bridge by someone who was planning to jump!!! Rain is on the way and hope it will be soon so mud roads will wash out and vehicles like Bikers can speed more than now in splashing water and show their stunts.

Dear all, this is not new .we see and experience it since long time. When drainage was inspected, next week come electricians, next month will be blocke drainage to repair, and so so on.Here main problem was this time the contractor or who was responsible for this work never there?or how he didnt notice the blocks were put inside ?Why they dont inspect during the work ,correct ?Either contractor was not a good or experienced person. Now make the last contractor to answer for it and make him to bear the cost. Not simply someones error should to bear the MCC.
