Mangaluru: Distribution losses - Mescom registering gradually declining trend

Mangaluru, Mar 4: Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Mescom) has been registering lesser power distribution losses since the last seven years.

In 2014-15, its distribution loss stood at 11.96 percent. Now this rate has come down to 10.07 percent. This is the lowest distribution loss recorded in recent years.

The company has been working efficiently to further bring down its distribution loss though quality power transmission. Now, the rate of failure of power transformers has come down from 11.88 percent in 2015-16 to 6.62 percent as at December 2020.This also contributed to decline in the distribution loss, says Mescom managing director, Prashanth Kumar Mishra.

Mescom which manages power supply in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts, has 24.88 lac consumers, 34,000 industries, 17,000 water supply plants, 3.62 agricultural pump sets, and 2.27 commercial connections under it. The company also has recorded more efficiency in revenue collection as compared to other escoms. The company which collected 99 percent revenue in 2018-19, had to be satisfied with 96 percent so far in the current year due to COVID affect. Its performance is all the more appreciable in the light of manpower shortage, Mishra points out.
