India, UAE Vow to Preserve Cultural Ties

Abu Dhabi, Jul 6: India and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to cooperate in preserving documents related to the cultural ties between the two countries.

M.K. Lokeesh, Indian Ambassador to UAE, visited the National Centre for Documentation and Research (NCDR) and discussed on establishing ties between the NCDR and the National Archives of India as well as other Indian cultural institutions.

The Indian ambassador also suggested cooperation between the NCDR and relevant agencies in India to document the history of India-UAE relations based on published books as well as historical documents, said Abdullah El Reyes, Director General of the NCDR.

Abdullah El Reyes said the Centre has benefited from the documents, related to the history of the UAE and the Gulf area, preserved in the archives of Maharashtra's capital Mumbai, in Goa archives which contain the Portuguese documents, as well as in New Delhi and Kerala archives.

The diplomat also talked about the possibility of coordination between Indian academic institutions in the fields of archive, documentation and information technology.
