Man from Karnataka donates Rs 526 crore to Kerala temple

Daijiworld Media Network - Thiruvananthapuram (SP)

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 27: A Karnataka-based devotee had donated Rs 526 crore to Chottanikkara Bhagawathi temple. The fact that such a huge donation was made had made big news.

The temple managing committee now has its own doubt about the source of the above funds. Because of this, it is dithering from using the donation that was made last year. The temple has asked the donor to provide details of his source of income.

Gana Shravan from Chikkaballapur who made this donation, had claimed that he had made up his mind to give this donation as his business prospered many times after he visited the said temple.

Shravan had claimed that he is involved with diamond, gold and other precious metals business. He claimed that he is a director in 'Swamiji' group of companies. He also said that with his Munnangi Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, he has been earning foreign exchange. But there is suspicion about the source of the money. Complaint has been made to the government and temple management about this matter. When the temple sought details of income, Shravan replied he would provide the same within 60 days.

Speaking about the issue, Shravan said that after he started visiting the said temple, he earned good profit in business and therefore had donated for the renovation of the temple. He said that because of complaints made by some people without basis, temple renovation plans are kept pending.

Devaswom minister of Kerala, Kadampalli Surendran, said that the funds will be utilised only after the high court permits the same. He said because of suspicion on the source of funds, the same is being verified.

He could have given it to the coffers of the treasury by attaching some strings like (example only), build a 4-lane road from one point to the other within a certain time frame and name that road after him. What was the need to donate it to some temple in Kerala? He could have opened a start-up to develop cutting edge technology and created jobs. What was the need to send that money to Kerala and new get back after 60days with explanation of how he got that money.

BELLEVILLE, Mich. — Sep. 26, 1999 12 AM PT ASSOCIATED PRESS "When Bob Thompson sold his company for $422 million, he could have chartered a jet, flown off to an island and, heck, bought the island, too. Thompson had mulled it over for years, conferred with his wife. The bighearted boss divvied up $128 million among his 550 workers. And for more than 80 folks, he had a bonus beyond belief: They will become millionaires. “I was flabbergasted,” says Rusty Stafford, an area manager who opened his envelope at home, with his wife, Tammy. She tearfully said, “ ‘Russ, I think the commas are in the wrong place,’ ” he recalls. But the 67-year-old Thompson is downright casual about his generosity. Some people make a lot of money in the stock market, Thompson says, “but we’re dependent on people, so it would just not be fair not to do it. They’ve allowed me to live the way I want to live.” Thompson and his wife, Ellen, have a three-bedroom frame house. She still mops floors and washes windows. His wood panelled office has no Persian rugs or oil paintings. Instead, there are photos of their three children and five grandchildren,. Thompson had long planned to reward his workers, naming scores of them in his will." There are people who are very generous and want to share their wealth to their employees who made them rich. Well he believes that by give donation to the temple he would help to employ many people for the renovation of the temple. He is generous in giving 526 crores of his money. I wish him all the best and give more to the deserving poor people also. God Bless him.

Donating money in lakhs or crores to temple or any charity organization is fine but accepting such a big amount without knowing the source, authenticity or without thorough verification is illegal and crime.Money may or may not be from his profit from his business but he donor has to produce the proof for the source.Otherwise temple authorities will be questioned and grilled by the concerned authorities.

If he is using black money why should he make an open offer? He must have had sourses of income and he will give the details. People put crores at tirupathi hundies and none ask or verify the sourse. He has openly offered his wealth to the deity. Accept it after verification.

Temple people have the right to ask the origin of his fortune and donation.Otherwise officials will ask temple organization about it and have to pay tax on it.I too find whether this person had paid his workers good salary ?He could have given them something to have a better life than only to temple.Anyway it is his wish .

Speechless !! better to venture into some business rather than toiling 9.00 to 5.00 for somebody else. Here employees are paid in peanuts even when owners have windfall in profits. Even "pakoda"business would be fine.

How can a unkmown company can make so much money and donate crores to God. Dal me kuch kala hai. The businessman asking 6 month to furnish the detail. Instead donating he should have started his own charity. If he donate 1 Lac to the poor he can contribute upto 52600 people.
