Taiwan's Lu Knocks out Roddick at Wimbledon

IANS

London, Jun 29: Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun upset three-time finalist Andy Roddick 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 9-7 to become the first Asian man in 15 years to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam with his victory at Wimbledon Monday.

Shuzo Matsuoka of Japan was the last Asian man to reach the last eight of a Grand Slam, at Wimbledon in 1995.

The loss was the earliest for fifth seed Roddick since the American lost in the Wimbledon third round in 2002.

Lu was beaten prior to this edition in four first rounds at the All England Club, with an Australian Open third round last year his best Grand Slam showing.
