Mangaluru: Second vaccination drive for police, revenue, rural development, municipal administration

Mangaluru, Feb 6: Even as the first Covid vaccination campaign is progressing, the second vaccination drive will be launched in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on February 8. In the second campaign, employees falling under home department including police, revenue department, rural development, as well as officers and employees of the municipal administration department will get vaccinated. As many as 8,568 people have registered themselves in Dakshina Kannada district. In the first drive, 52,381 had registered themselves for the vaccination. As against 27,901 who were to be vaccinated till Thursday, 16,582 got vaccinated. Dakshina Kannada district nodal officer, Dr Rajesh said that all the government staff are expected to get vaccination by Saturday.

The first vaccination drive was meant for health department staff and officers, as they were in the forefront of the Covid action. The drive had begun on January 16. Those who were vaccinated in the first drive have to get a second dose of the vaccine after 28 days. Therefore, the process of giving the second dose will begin on February 14. People who got vaccinated first can get the second vaccination within four to 12 weeks thereof.

For the second phase of the vaccination, frontline warriors including the deputy commissioner have been chosen. There are 4,012 names in the list in Udupi district. As many as 1,882 among them are police, 357 from local bodies, 555 from revenue department 1,202 from rural development, 16 panchayat raj engineering department staff, said district health officer, Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda.

Two vaccination centres will also be opened at Kundapur and Karkala taluk hospitals. Vaccination centres will also be opened at the district hospital, and urban primary health centres. The district health officer said that the deputy commissioner, zilla panchayat chief executive officer and additional deputy commissioner will get Covishield vaccines at 11 am on February 8.
