Udupi, Feb 4: Earlier in the month a minor was raped by a group of men sending shockwaves across Chikkamagaluru. Reacting to the incident Udupi-Chikkamagaluru BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje said, "The rape of Sringeri-based minor girl is severely condemnable. I have contacted senior police officials and directed them to arrest the guilty and provide suitable police protection to the victim soon after the incident came to light."

"Police personnel have arrested the suspects after the girl was admitted to Santvana Kendra. The woman identified as Geeta believed to be the victim's aunt has played a role in the crime as well. She has been arrested and is being questioned," the BJP MP said.

“Why the girl who is a student of SSLC came to Chikkamagaluru from her village? Why did her aunt abuse her? Has Geeta done the same with any other girls? The police have been directed to investigate these angles," said MP Shobha.

"Considering the seriousness of the case and in the interest of the victim, it is best to not make public statements. I am in constant touch with senior police officials and the developments are being monitored," she said.
